I'm the one who reads the warranty small print. With cold plunge kits it matters more than usual, because the tub and the chiller often carry different coverage, sometimes from different companies, and the listing rarely says so on the first screen.

Chillers get most of my attention. A listing promises a very low water temperature, and I want to know where that number comes from. Is it in the manual? Does it depend on the air temperature around the unit? Does the chiller need its own outlet, and what does the manual say about running it outdoors? If the documentation is silent, our guide says it's silent.

I also write about water care (filters, ozone, sanitizer, how often owners really drain and refill) and about materials and insulation, which is where cheap and expensive tubs truly split. I line the spec sheets up side by side and read owner reviews for what a spec sheet never mentions: noise, condensation, a pump that clogs.

We haven't run these chillers or filled these tubs for the site. My job is to make the paperwork readable, so you can compare two kits on what the companies actually commit to.

Areas of expertise

  • Chiller specs: stated temperature, power, outlet
  • Filtration, ozone and water care
  • Tub materials and insulation
  • Warranty terms for tub and chiller

How I work

  • I keep the tub warranty and the chiller warranty apart, and note who handles each one when the listing says.
  • A temperature or power figure goes in only with its source: listing, manual or spec sheet.
  • I compare spec sheets side by side, in the same units, before anything gets a verdict.
  • I read owner reviews for noise, condensation and clogging, the things spec sheets leave out.

How we compare and rate the tubs and kits is explained on How we rate. The rest of the team: Our editors.
